In the Indian automobile market the demand for the 5-seater SUVs is on the rise. These types of vehicles can be used for daily city driving as well as for long all-terrain travels. The two vehicles the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster which have started this trend in 2013 are still going strong in the market.
There are more variants for the Duster. The Ford EcoSport comes in 6 petrol and 4 diesel variants in Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium (Opt) trims with one petrol variant having automatic transmission. The car is priced Rupees 6.75 to 10.20 lakh. The 2015 Duster comes in 2 petrol and 9 diesel variants priced Rupees 8.3 to 13.55 lakh with two diesel variants having all wheels drive options. There are no automatic transmission variants for the Duster.
The Ford EcoSport comes in colours of kinetic blue, panther black, sea grey, mars red, moon dust silver and chill metallic. The Renault Duster comes in colours of pearl galaxy black, metallic graphite grey, metallic woodland brown, metallic moon light silver, Amazon green, metallic fiery red, pearl supreme white and glacier white.
The EcoSport is a compact sporty vehicle with a large octagonal grille, muscular creases over bonnet, mounted spare wheel at the rear and a rear spoiler. The Duster has dual tone bumpers, gun metal alloy wheels for the AWD variants, chrome garnished tail gates and chrome satin skid plates.
The cabin of both the EcoSport and the Duster have standard cabin features like a manual AC, power steering with tilt and telescopic adjustment, electric ORVMs with turn indicators and an integrated music system with Bluetooth connectivity. The top variant of the EcoSport has 2 air bags, an automatic AC and rear parking sensors. The Option variants have 6 air bags and leather seats. The top trims of the Duster have Brake Assist and GPS system additionally.
The Ford EcoSport gives better mileages. Two of the variants with 1.0L Ecoboost petrol engines give mileages of 18.9 kmpl and others with 1.5L petrol engines 15.8 kmpl. The diesel ones with 1.5L engines give mileages of 22.7 kmpl. The Duster petrol variants powered by 1.6L engines give mileages of 13.05 kmpl. The 1.5L diesel variants have mileages of 19.72 to 20.87 kmpl.
The 3999 mm long EcoSport has a ground clearance of 200 mm and the 4315 mm long Duster 205 mm. The EcoSport has R15 tyres for the base variants and R16 for the top. The Duster has R16 tyres for all the variants.
Compact sporty looks, lesser prices and better mileages are the advantages of the EcoSport. The Renault Duster scores in cabin spaces and comfort features.
